By the time you read this I will already be dead on my plane

I'm being banished to England for a week, so there probably won't be any posting.

There will, however, be a Dead Racist Blogging post up on Friday as always. I have already blogged it into the future.

Go me!

I'm a member of the Culture of Death! Woot!

After deciding to create a campaign to tell people that birth control pills kill babies, the people who came up with this lunacy were shocked that people were getting angry at them and mocking their totally insane ideas! I mean, all they want to do is rob people of their civil liberties and maintain tight control of the sexuality and sexual actions of one-half of the population, and all they're doing to accomplish it is spreading lies and slandering their would-be victims as murderers. What on earth is everyone getting so upset about?
Just to give you a sampling of who is saying what, I am sending you a "short" list of Culture of Death bloggers talking about The Pill Kills website. I don't recommend wasting too much time reading their nonsense, but it is worth noting their overt hostility to anything that "just might" change their worldview of "promiscuity-made-safe."

And little old me made their list!

And it's rather telling that they object to "promiscuity-made-safe." See? They don't give a damn about safety--especially not for women who have sex. How much clearer could it be that they want nothing more than to punish people who dare to yield to natural impulses?

"Just passin' 'em out!"

I just got a piece of mail today from my university, saying that I "achieved academic honors within the last year."

I find this very amusing, since I haven't attended university in the last year. Apparently, they just hand out academic honors to anyone nowadays.

Kinda devalues the academic honors I got when I was a student.

This is not for you

Just wanted to say "Happy Valentine's Day!" to my reader in the U.K. who apparently went through my entire archive of posts.

Thanks, fellow. You totally increased my page views and average visit length.

The rest of you can go to hell.

Hooray for Zoidberg!

Over a thousand visitors in six weeks!

Congratulations (and thanks) to the person from Shallotte, North Carolina, who at 12:19 today read this post after I left a comment at Orcinus--you're my thousandth visitor!

I'd like to take a moment to review some of the stranger phrases that people have Googled and come out at my blog:
genesis verse 29 segregation
ku klux klan in visalia, ca
john van evrie     [I'm probably gonna do a DRB post entirely on John Van Evrie at some point]
how were slaves mistreated in united states
charles carroll
biblical intermarrying of israelites with foreigners
miscegenation god
atavism black child
judaism and race mixing

I hope these people were just doing research, and I hope they found my posts useful.

But the one that freaked me out the most was probably the guy who googled '"a practical guide to racism" skemono'. Wh-why are you googling my nick? What do you care what I have to say about that book?

New spaces

This is my blog's new home. I'm still tinkering with it somewhat, so the layout may change. But really, who cares?

About right

SMITHERS: Now, I realize caring for Mr. Burns seems like a big job, but... actually it's just 2800 small jobs.

[Later...]

HOMER: Uh, Mr. Smithers? I don't understand 2700 of my new duties.
SMITHERS: Well, the van's leaving... which one duty is giving you the most trouble?
HOMER: Uh... what do I do in case of fire?
SMITHERS: [muffled as van door shuts] Sorry, can't hear you. Bye!
HOMER: [sits down, glances into office to see a blazing fire] Aww, just my luck.

"I've learned that just because something is 'impossible' doesn't mean it can't happen."

That may have to be my new motto (although I still like my previous one).

My brother and I were discussing just the other day how often my step-father runs into situations that are simply "impossible" when programming.

Non-fiction encounter of the day

I took one of my finals earlier. One of the women in the class was wearing a shirt that said VDay on the front.

At first I thought it said, uh... something very different.

I need to get out more.

The End Is Nye pt. 2

Only tangentially related to my previous post, but I suddenly want to get episodes of Bill Nye the Science Guy and/or The Eyes of Nye, and pick out clips in order to make a fake movie trailer for some summer blockbuster about Bill Nye taking over the planet or something.

I can imagine the catchphrase now: "This summer, 'Science Rules'... with an iron fist."

Well whaddya know....

Purdue just canceled classes because of snow.

This is my first snow day in years. I didn't even know colleges were allowed to do that.

[Edit] They closed the libraries! The bastards! Couldn't they have just shut down the dining halls instead?

D'oh!

I'm taking a class entitled Comparative Mythology, wherein we study the various myths of Mesopotamian, Meso-American, Celtic and Chinese cultures. Our first module was studying Mesopotamian cultures: Babylonian, Canaanite, Hittite, Hebrew, etc. We have a test tomorrow, so the professor posted a list of terms and names we should know, and we had review sessions last night so people could ask the TA's questions.

As a classmate remarked to me afterwards, "The award for 'dumbest question of the evening' has to go to that girl who asked 'Who's Yahweh?'"

Mindless drivel!

My statistics professor is Russian, so before class yesterday I wrote С Рождеством! (Merry Christmas!) on the board.

Apparently she found this amusing enough that she didn't want to erase it. So she spent the class writing around it--which got to be awkward at times because I'd wrote in fairly large letters.

...no moral to the story, except maybe don't write things on chalkboards.

*bites lips*

In reference to Condoleeza Rice, filkertom rhetorically asked:
Jayzus, what is it with these people? Are they literally a different species?

Must... refrain... from commenting.

*drools*

Well, now I'm even happier that I made that Google Books downloader.

[Edit] Hrm. Some of the scans of Google Books are fairly poor... but I've found a better source.

So now I have to modify my downloader to work with this other site, as well. Sigh.
